The great cycles of Jupiter and Saturn — and your personal rhythm

Why does life move in waves? We explore the great astrological cycles of Jupiter and Saturn that explain the 'seasons' of your life.

Many people notice: life moves in waves. Two or three years when everything comes together, then several years of difficulty. This isn't coincidence — and it isn't 'karma'. These waves have an astrological explanation.

The 12-year Jupiter cycle

Jupiter passes through all the signs of the Zodiac in 12 years. Each year it activates different zones of your chart. When Jupiter moves through your Sun, Moon or Ascendant sign — this is a year of expanding opportunities, growth and ease. Roughly once every 12 years.

At the opposite point in the cycle (six years later) — Jupiter is opposite your key points. This is a period when growth comes through other people, through relationships and partnerships. It may feel more demanding, but it's no less productive.

The 29-year Saturn cycle

Saturn moves slower: 29.5 years for a full orbit. Its cycle creates the great 'seasons' of life. When Saturn passes through the zone of natal planets — serious work is activated in that theme. Not a crisis — a test of resilience and an opportunity to build.

The most well-known points: the Saturn return at 29–30 (the need to take responsibility) and at 57–60 (reassessment). Between these — the square (21, 51) and opposition (44–45): also important points of revaluation.

How to use this knowledge

Understanding 'seasons' helps you stop fighting the period. If Saturn is currently pressing on your personal planets — this is a time to build, not to force ease. If Jupiter is nearby — this is a time to expand, not to hide.

Not every difficult year has an astrological explanation. But knowing that 'this period is objectively harder, and it's temporary' already reduces anxiety. You're not a failure — you're at a particular point in the cycle.

What to do in a difficult period

Accept that it won't last forever. Avoid forcing launches and major decisions if the transits don't support them. Use the time for work that will bear fruit later. Seek support — from a therapist, astrologer, or those close to you.

Difficult periods in the chart typically last from a few months to two years. After them, a period often follows when everything built up begins to work — precisely because the foundations were laid.
